Meet Our Team

Lena Schreyer 

Founder and Director 

As the founder and director of Beecuz, Lena strives to proactively address mental health by equipping students with the information, skills, and resources they need to reach their full potential. Lena uses her training in neuroscience, positive psychology, mental health advocacy, and facilitation to create captivating, applicable, and skill-building opportunities for youth. Since 2018, Lena has been designing educational programs for students, primary care-givers and community groups, which are founded on principles of positive psychology.

Lena strongly believes that by developing mental health literacy, spreading the power of positivity, and building supporting communities, anything is possible.

Betsy is driven to make a difference in youth's everyday life by connecting with the community, promoting Beecuz' services and organizing engaging events.

Carolyn is dedicated to finding the newest research on mental wellness, and seeks to engage the community in active conversations 

Workshop Facilitators

Our facilitators are a passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic group of University students, who are ready to make a change. Each facilitator dedicates countless hours to learning the Beecuz curriculum and receives extensive mental health training, to ensure that our workshops are nothing short of top quality.

Rebecca Smith is an experienced student affairs professional working with the Scholars community at Western University. In addition to her work with the Scholars community, Rebecca is an engaging facilitator who trains faculty, staff and students in various wellness and social impact topics, including safeTALK, and ASIST. Her work with mental health training initiatives increases awareness campus-wide and has been an extremely valuable asset to the Western community. In her free time, Rebecca enjoys staying active with her husband and two daughters, and travelling to sunny destinations. Rebecca is thrilled to support Beecuz' mission and recognizes the value of proactive mental wellness education.

Jenny Brooks has been teaching with the Waterloo Region District School Board since 2007. She has primarily taught students in Grades 4-7. In recent years, she has seen a significant increase in students dealing with mental health issues. Jenny is a passionate advocate for mental health and wellness, especially in helping students open the discussion and end the stigma. In the past few years, Jenny has worked as one of the mental health leaders at her school, a role which has included presenting at staff meetings, providing resources to staff, and creating lesson and unit plans. Since making discussions about mental health a part of her classroom, Jenny has seen the significant positive impact they have had on students.

Jody Michalofsky has been an elementary teacher with the Waterloo Region District School Board for 18 years and is an active mental health advocate. As a teacher, Jody has witnessed an increase in the number of students struggling with their mental health, and lacking skills in resiliency and perseverance. Her passionate work to increase mental health literacy in her classroom and throughout the School Board has been a rewarding experiencing that emphasized the importance of developing mental health literacy. Apart from her passion for teaching and mental health, Jody enjoys reading and travelling. She is excited to work with Beecuz and eager to see the positive impact of mental wellness education.
