Health and Physical Education
A1.3. Social-Emotional Learning Skills, Positive Motivation and Perseverance: Apply skills that help them develop habits of mind that support positive motivation and perseverance as they participate in learning experiences in health and physical education, in order to promote a sense of optimism and hope.
In this lesson, students learn how to become aware of, attend to, and appreciate positive events in a way that cultivates positive emotions. By savouring the past, present, and future, students develop a more positive and optimistic mindset. Students are then introduced to two specific skills (mindful eating and storytelling) to practice savouring. (Achieved in GO activity)
Health and Physical Education
D2.1. Social-Emotional Learning Skills, Making Healthy Choices, Health Eating: Apply their knowledge of medical, emotional, practical, and societal factors that influence eating habits and food choices.
During the mindful eating activity, students learn how a busy schedule, emotions, and other factors can contribute to mindless eating and dampen the sensational and cultural experiences that accompany eating. Through this practice, students become more aware of and intentional about their eating habits. (Achieved in GO activity)
Language, Writing
2.1. Using Knowledge of Form and Style in Writing, Form: Write longer and more complex texts using a wide range of forms.
Students are asked to apply their storytelling skills to savour the past by writing a reflection about a past positive experience. This text can take a variety of forms and, the more complex the text, the more effective it will be as a savouring activity. (Achieved in GO activity)
Language, Writing
2.3. Using Knowledge of Form and Style in Writing, Word Choice: Use some vivid and/or figurative language and innovative expressions to enhance interest.
