Health and Physical Education
A1.4 Social Emotional Learning Skills, Healthy Relationships: Apply skills that help them build relationships, develop empathy, and communicate with others as they participate in learning experiences in health and physical education, in order to support healthy relationships, a sense of belonging, and respect for diversity
This lesson gives students the opportunity to practice identifying empathy misses, circling back, and constructing a more accurate empathetic response. By learning about all seven empathy misses and working through the steps to clean up an empathy miss, students become more aware of how they respond to their peers and they begin to develop more effective ways of communicating that support healthy relationships. (Achieved in the GO activity)
The Arts, Drama
B1.1. Creating and Presenting: Engage actively in drama exploration and role play, with a focus on identifying and examining a range of issues, themes, and ideas from a variety of fiction and non-fiction sources and diverse communities, times, and places
During the empathy miss skits, each student takes on a specific role within their group. They use this skit to teach their peers about their assigned empathy miss, and they use their acting skills to communicate empathy more accurately. (Achieved in the GO activity)
The Arts, Drama
B1.3. Creating and Presenting: Plan and shape the direction of the drama or role play by introducing new perspectives and ideas, both in and out of role
