New Start. New Look. New Program.
For those of you who are familiar with Beecuz, take a look around, a lot has changed! For those of you who are new to Beecuz, welcome!
Last year, we piloted our 12-week mental health education program in three schools across Southwestern Ontario, and we received a lot of positive feedback. Students and teachers loved the dynamic, interactive nature of our program and, most importantly, they loved what they learned. They learned that everyone has mental health, that wellbeing is a skill, and that the absence of illness does not equate to wellness. They learned about positive psychology and they practiced taking care of themselves, their friends, their communities, and their environment. Now, more than ever before, these skills are vital.
Over the last six months, we also spent hours talking with teachers, administrators and students. We asked for your feedback, listened to your concerns, and discussed some of the complex challenges accompanying mental health education. Regardless of experience, school, subject, or grade, every teacher we spoke with brought up the following two concerns:
- I want to talk about mental health, but I don’t have time.
- I want to talk about mental health, but I don’t know how.
We hear you. Your time is limited and valuable. Teaching something that you aren’t familiar with is scary and overwhelming.
Here’s the solution: Beecuz is launching a comprehensive, online platform for teachers, equipped with lesson plans, research, class activities, videos, games, worksheets, and more. Teachers, this platform is your step-by-step guide to positive, mental health education. It’s your jackpot. This platform doesn’t just teach you how to talk about mental health and wellbeing, it also gives you time. How?
Do you remember how you had to do your own research about what something means, how something works, or who someone is? We’ve done that all for you. Beecuz has summarized the best research from the most credible sources, into bite-sized, understandable articles that help you become more confident and comfortable with the subject.
Do you remember how you used to search for games, plan activities, and scavenge Pinterest for ideas? We’ve done that all for you. Our platform has 40 innovative, interactive, and interdisciplinary lesson plans that you and your students will love!
Do you remember how you were filled with anxiety when a student asked you a question about mental health because you didn’t know how much you could say or how to respond? No worries! We’ve included suggested responses for students’ most frequently asked questions.
Sound great, right? But, we know, you still don’t have time in your school day to actually teach the lesson. There’s writing, reading, social studies, health, and so much more that (unfortunately) take priority. We thought of that. Each lesson has been designed to integrate directly into your everyday teaching and align with learning outcomes from the elementary (Grade 6) curriculum. We even created rubrics for you to assess students’ learning!
If you’re not a teacher, don’t leave! This blog will be filled with new, free content teaching you about mental health and wellbeing; introducing tools, tips and strategies for building a better life; and creating a community of brightly buzzing minds.
We are so excited to start this journey with you and can’t wait to show you the world of positive education. What are you waiting for? It’s time to redefine wellness. It’s time to create a buzz for mental health.
